Thai standard TIS229-2540 specifies two quality classes of acetylene.
Some applications require higher grade called Atomic Absorption (AA grade).
Japanese International standard JIS K1902-1980 specifies acetylene purity of 98.0%.
Class 2 | Class 1 | AA Grade | JIS K1902 | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Acetylene purity | 98.0% | 99.5% | 99.6% | 98.0% |
Hydrogen phosphene | <500 ppm | <50 ppm | <25 ppm | Not specified |
Hydrogen sulfide | <500 ppm | <50 ppm | <25 ppm | Not specified |
Moisture | <0.25% | <0.25% | <0.25% | Not specified |
Ammonia | Not specified | Not specified | Not specified | Not specified |
Image: Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is used to quantify purity level of acetylene.
Image: GASTEC sampling pump together with gas detector tubes are used to test traces of impurity in ppm. The impurities are hydrogen phosphene, hydrogen sulfide, and ammonia.
Image: Our routine tests can ensure that the impurities are well below required standard.
Image: Good quality oxy-acetylene is shown with light blue color of the flame. When acetylene is mixed with an excess of oxygen, it burns with a very hot blue flame as high as 3000°C.
